Famous in the whole of Spain for its carnival, its Holy Week, its football team and the friendliness and humour of its inhabitants, Cadiz offers an endless range of things to do for all ages and in all seasons.
So what is there to see in Cadiz? The Cathedral and many other beautiful churches, the botanical garden and waterfall in the Parque Genoves, The Torre Tavira watchtower and its Camera Oscura and the 7 kilometres of beach will all make your stay a cultural and relaxing one!

Sports

The province of Cadiz boasts of some of the best beaches in Spain and with 7 kilometres of sandy beaches in the city alone, how could we not mention water sports? From surfing and kite-surfing to canoeing or sailing, the options are endless, even in winter.
The local football team, although not in the top division, is famous in Spain for its fans. If the team are playing during your stay, we recommend you see a match as the atmosphere is always good.

Flamenco

Some of the most famous flamenco artists are from Cadiz. As you stroll through The Barrio de Santa Maria, home to the Merced Flamenco Centre and famous Peñas, you will see many plaques where famous flamencos were born. For an entertaining evening, why not go to one of the numerous flamencos peñas on a Friday night. Some of the best known are La Peña la Perla de Cádiz, la Peña Juanito Villa and la Peña Enrique el Mellizo.

Holy Week

Although not as famous as Seville's Semana Santa, Cadiz is well known for its Holy Week. Semana Santa begins on Palm Sunday and ends on Easter Day. There are processions every day, Thursday being the highlight when processions go on through the night till 11 am the next day. Some of the most followed processions are the Veracruz, Nazareno and Medinacelli.

Carnival

The Cadiz Carnival is an internationally acclaimed event. It is celebrated over a period of ten days, starting on the Thursday before Ash Wednesday and lasting until the following Sunday.
The gaditanos (the locals) are famous all over Spain for their wit and their humour, so it is not surprising that the main characteristics of the carnival are intelligent play on words, sarcasm, irony and critical parodies.

Visitors, even those who do not speak Spanish, can easily take part and thoroughly enjoy this wonderful event. On the first Saturday of Carnival, everyone dresses up and you will be amazed by the creativity of some of the partygoers!

Weather in Cadiz

Cadiz enjoys around 300 days of sunshine during the year. The winter is mild and humid and the summer is warm but pleasant due to the sea breeze.
