The University of London International Programmes is the world's oldest provider of degrees through flexible learning. Our internationally renowned awards have been accessible to students across the world since 1858. Today, we are proud to have more than 54,000 students in over 180 countries.

Teaching institutions have played a central role in the success of the University of London International Programmes over the last 155 years. Not only have they helped us realise our vision of providing a life-changing, high quality university education to those who could benefit, but they have enhanced the learning experience of countless students.

In recognition of this important role, in 2009 we introduced the Teaching Institutions Recognition Framework to formalise our relationships with teaching institutions. This framework aims to create closer links with selected high quality teaching institutions around the world, by recognising those that meet a set of specific quality criteria in respect to the support they provide to International Programmes students.

Saint Martin's Institute of Higher Education is an Affiliate Centre for the University of London International Programmes. This is the highest level of recognition and means that in the considered view of the University of London it demonstrates a sustained commitment to developing excellence in respect of teaching, support to students and administrative processes. We are delighted that Saint Martin's Institute is a member of our network of recognised centres and we hope that being part of this network will contribute to its ongoing development and result in an even closer relationship with the University of London International Programmes. Ultimately, this will help to ensure that International Programmes students at Saint Martin's Institute have a high quality and rewarding learning experience.

Scholarships and Grants

A variety of scholarships and benefit schemes are offered to accepted students.

This section will be updated when new schemes are implemented for the new scholastic year beginning in September.

Please note that not all schemes are offered to non-EU students, and are granted on an individual assessment of the student.

Qualifications required

Often a prospective student does not believe they have adequate qualifications to be accepted. We assure you that all qualifications will be carefully considered before an official decision is taken, and it is important to include all relevant information in your application, including work experience.

Qualifications for different courses vary considerably. Entry requirements for each specific course can be found on the respective course page on this website under the Departments section. Further information can be found at here.

Finding the Right Course

Choosing a degree to dedicate three or more years of your life to, can be a daunting task. It is a decision which affects many aspects of your life and it is important to remember that education is an investment in yourself. Although this personal investment aspect of education may not be so apparent at primary level, this is exactly what tertiary level education is for. Keep in mind your strengths, goals for your future career, as well as the skills you want to develop.

Choosing a degree involves thinking of the long-term outcomes, and the right degree will allow you to be more critical and analytical, as well as develop your problem- solving skills. Such attributes make you more employable, and in turn you will become more fulfilled and accomplished.

The University of London International Programmes has put together an article outlining aspects one can take into consideration before settling into a career path.http://careers.theguardian.com/moving-career-up-gear-expert-top-tips

Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL)

In certain circumstances, it may be possible for students to skip particular courses if it can be proved that students have already obtained qualifications in the same area. During the application process, it is vital to mention any such qualifications and we will be able to guide you accordingly. This does not automatically mean that you will be eligible for APL. Further details can be found here.

FAQ

If I want a University of London degree, why should I stay in Malta?

Living in Malta also reduces costs, both in terms of accommodation and day-to-day activities, as the cost of living is much lower compared to London City. For Maltese students, in addition to the above benefits, it allows you to obtain a University of London qualification without compromising any of your work or family commitments.

How do I know if the quality of classes is as good ad those at the University of London?

Being an Affiliate Centre, Saint Martin's Institute undergoes numerous checks and visits by the University of London every year. Moreover our students consistently achieve excellent results. We only keep our Affiliate Centre status by showing sustained commitment to developing excellence, and our track record proves it.

Can I study with the University of London International Programmes independently?

Although most programmes can be studied independently, there are a number of benefits to studying with a teaching centre such as Saint Martin's. This way, students receive better guidance and have a more structured learning environment. Attending group lectures will also allow students to absorb the ideas of others and be open to discussion, not simply learn the literature to pass exams.

Do you accept mature students?

Yes of course! There is no upper age limit for students.

How many students are in each class?

Saint Martin's prides itself on providing small class education and a limited number of students in each course. Most classes are no larger than 20 students.

Is everyone eligible for scholarships?

This depends on the specific scheme you are applying for. Please contact the organisers of the scheme for more details.

How will I be assessed?

University of London examinations are held during May/June. Internal examinations are held twice a year, with First Semester exams in December and Second Semester exams in March. This serves the student by assessing their understanding before the real exam and allows time for improvements and self-assessment. Assignments and projects are also a substantial part of the programme but this depends on each programme of study.

Are exams run by you or the University of London?

All examinations are set and marked in London by the College that provides academic direction for that programme. Exam invigilation is left to the Registrar of Examinations, part of the Ministry of Education, of the Government of Malta - thus ascertaining a clear line between Saint Martin's teaching role, and the University of London's examination and degree-awarding roles. Upon successful completion of their programme, the student becomes a graduate or alumni of the University of London International Programmes.
