Who are we?

Where are we located? 

BKF University of Applied Sciences, Budapest is the largest private university in Hungary and one of

the largest private higher education institutions of Central Europe.

Hungary is situated in Central Europe and it is a full member of both the European Union and the

Schengen Agreement. Budapest is the capital city of Hungary. With a unique, youthful atmosphere, a

world-class classical music scene as well as a pulsating night life increasingly appreciated among

European youth and, last but not least, an exceptionally rich offering of natural thermal baths, Budapest

is one of Europe's most delightful and enjoyable cities. Due to its scenic setting and its architecture

it is nicknamed "Paris of the East".

Our university has 5 campuses altogether. The main

campus where the majority of the English classes are 

held consists of modern buildings in a green

environment. The new multifunctional building was the

first investment of nearly 1 billion HUF, co-financed by the

EU in higher education. Student work and learning at the

University is facilitated by unrestricted access to a WiFi

network covering the complete area of the campus, and

a number of computer work stations scattered around the

buildings.Downtown Rózsa Street Campus (the reconstructed buildings of which opened their gates in

2010) and Rottenbiller Street Campus (reconstructed and opened in 2014) are home to the art programs

of the University offering workshops and classrooms adapted to the special needs of art classes

including a photo studio and laboratory, a cameramen studio, cutting rooms and teaching spaces

for animation studies. The glass walls of the studios offer people passing by a glimpse of the artists at

work. The equipment – such as looms, electronic kilns, etching presses, industrial sewing machines and

150 high-performance Macintosh computers – needed for the arts programs are also housed inside

these creative spaces. The campus also boasts one of the very few Leonar3Do laboratories in the

world with the special interactive 3D software installed offering students the opportunity to work in real

space and time.

BKF is a relatively young higher education institution as it was established in 2000, with state

accreditation. It has provided higher educational, adult educational and advanced vocational training

courses of a high international and European Union standard since 2001.

We are proud that currently we have more than 200

students from nearly 50 different countries and 4

continents. BKF University of Applied Sciences,

Budapest conducts its programs according to the

European Qualifications Framework of the Bologna

Process. Thus diplomas attained at BKF are generally

accepted in the countries of the European Union.

PROGRAMS IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2014/2015

Our international programs were launched in 2010 and all of them are delivered fully in English. At

present, the number of international students is about 200 and they represent countries from all major

regions of the world, including Europe, the Middle and Far East, and Africa.

Language preparatory and foundation programs

 Intensive English Language Preparatory Program (300 hours / 600 hours)

We offer English Language Courses for those students whose command of English is not good enough

to be enrolled in our BA/MA programs. Basic knowledge of English is the minimum requirement.

 Foundation semester for Art programs

BKF University offers a brand new professional preparatory program (from every February) for those

applicants who wish to get enrolled in any of our English language art program. Students have the

opportunity to join the desired 6-semester-long art BA programs every September. In other words, for

those applicants who get admitted in February, the length of their studies will be 6+1 semesters. During

this semester, students have the chance to learn the basic concepts and techniques, professional

language, and also to familiarize themselves with the instructors and the atmosphere prior to the BA

program.Applicants wishing to get enrolled in any of our art programs should choose the Foundation semester

for Art programs (see our Preparatory programs below). In case there are at least 5 students for a

particular BA program, applicants who prove to be skilled enough (based on their portfolio, see our

application requirements) can start the BA program directly even in February.

Bachelor (BA) programs

 Animation

Animation offers creative people a fantastic chance to taste the joy of creation and to share that

experience with other people. The program is designed for those individuals who are interested in

classical and digital animation studies, 2D and 3D design, the specific genres of animation and

contemporary motion picture art and design. The applicants are creative, flexible and open with a mature

visual sense, patience and perseverance. They are preferably able to create and protect lasting values,

they are able to share their knowledge and work both alone and in teams.

 Business Administration and Management

Our courses prepare our students to meet any business challenge imaginable, as in addition to receiving

a thorough grounding in economics, students will also learn how to make powerful presentations, handle

business negotiations, organize events and write press releases. The program is designed for

individuals who are interested in the processes and practice of business life, business organization,

marketing and business communication, and who have good analytical, problem-solving and

organizational skills. The ideal applicant would like to learn the principles of managing resources and

production factors, the principles and methods of establishing organizations and institutions, and of

developing and changing their structure and their organizational behaviour.

 Commerce and Marketing

It provides fundamental business and economic knowledge that offers an unrivaled range of potential

directions of career and further training. The areas of marketing, PR, advertising and communication

are all open highways for our graduates. The program is designed for individuals who have strong verbal

and written communications skills, who are vigilantly observant and up-to-date on what is happening in

the world of business, and who are interested in the concept and operation of commerce and marketing.

 Communication and Media Science

The aim of the program is to transfer the in-depth knowledge and skills needed to understand and master

the constantly evolving tools of communication in a spirit that enables graduates to use the novel means

of communication and the media in a responsible way preparing students to face any future challenge.

The program is designed for individuals who are open, creative and well-informed with good

communication skills, who are ready to face challenges, ask questions and stand by their opinion.

teaching creative communication: writing, speaking and problem solving skills; development of critical

thinking and negotiating abilities; learning techniques of assertiveness.

• social media teaching: understanding the new type of communications and the radical

changings of social media publicity and conscious usage of it; features of social networks.

• project education: students may learn team work and active creativity

• learning to use the media tools.

• integrated approach Craftsmanship

New craftsmanship aims at acquiring and preserving traditional crafting techniques. Nevertheless, the

latest technological developments and expectations of our age bring about new opportunities imposing

new challenges and demanding the use of new materials. The program endeavours to maintain

continuity with both the past and present. With respect to the past, our graduates are able to create

works of art renewing the crafts of the 21st century. Due to the practice-oriented and art-centred

approach and training methods, students become highly-skilled in the use of various techniques and

materials at the same time creating their own individual world of objects. The experience and skills they

acquire enable them to pass down their knowledge and continue their studies in arts or teacher training

master programs. The program is designed for those individuals who have good drawing and manual

dexterity skills and who are able to work independently creating individual works of art.

 Film and Media Studies

Unlike other program, the three-year Film and Media Studies BA program of the BKF offers an

introduction to the full range of the profession, including experiences in its various challenges, from onecamera

interview shootings to multi-camera studio recordings. The program offers practical experience

in making short films, television scenes and documentaries, as well as practice in the work of a

screenwriter, director, assistant, lighting technician, sound engineer, and editor. These various practical

opportunities help our students in their future careers as professional, confident filmmakers.

 Graphic Design

The aim of the program is to design and create visual messages. Students are guided through the work

processes, from planning to the finished graphics. This way, they are provided with a comprehensive

view on how bring an idea into fruition. During the three-year program, they become highly proficient in

visual culture, and their education enables them to display intellectual and ideological contents in a

visual, creative format. Our mission is to raise the standard of visual thinking and encourage students

to become committed to innovative, aesthetic and smart graphic design and typography. In addition to

handing down professional skills and knowledge, the program also aims at marrying intuition and

consciousness in the course of the planning process and to rely on students’ sensitivity and cooperating

skills in individual and group work in the studio. The graduates of the program may continue their studies

at a master course in graphic design.

 International Business

It is not enough to be an outstanding business expert only back at home. As a member of the European

Union, Hungary is in great need of business and communication professionals who are able to

understand the challenges and key issues of international economic relations in order to exploit any

opportunities that may arise. If you are seeking to do that, you need secure knowledge of economic and

business matters, a fluent command of a second language for professional purposes and thorough

practical and work experience. The International Business Economics program of BKF offers exactly

that. Our graduate students, with professional level ability in at least two foreign languages, leave school

as well-trained business experts with the potential to achieve success and immediate results in the

international business scene. The program is designed for individuals who are well informed with a keen

interest in the world of international business, politics and the media, who look to find their future career

in an international environment and who are open to exposure to foreign cultures. Future students

should also be able to use two foreign languages for most personal needs with a desire to improve their

existing language skills so that they become an important asset both in their future career and for their

companies.

 Media Design

The Media design program refers to the teaching of such professionals who are able to recognize the

technological challenges of our time. Within the framework of theoretical classes and courses focusing

on software programs, students study the basics of computer graphic design, moving imaging and sound

creation as well as the specific approach and tools needed in various subfields. The curriculum also

features foundation courses teaching the skills needed for computer imaging (vector graphics, picture

manipulation, typography) and offering a solid grounding in the use of 3D animation and post-production

software (Blender, StudioMax, After Effects) network communication solutions (HTML, HTML CSS,

JavaScript, XML, PHP) and various music performance applications (Max-Msp-Jitter, Reason, Audacity,

Ardour, PD, etc.).

Our goal is to teach how is it possible to design and implement works of art, products, installations,

services, and interactive applications which seek to satisfy those changing social and individual needs

emerging in our environment.

 Photography

During the course of the program, students learn the visual design language of photography and how

to use its analog and digital technical tools. It is our goal and responsibility to provide photographers

graduating from us with credible professional knowledge, giving them the opportunity for continuous

development and to stand their ground in any of the fields of photography. The program is designed for

those individuals who are interested in visual communication; who - acquiring the forms of expression

of photography - wish to create and preserve values. The ideal candidates have a mature visual sense

and high standards with a disposition toward critical thinking, they are able to easily make contact and

cooperate with fellow students and future colleagues.

 Television Production Arts

We are committed to training professionals with complex skills, who are competent in creating television

programs individually, in various television genres, and whose professional knowledge covers such

areas as the work of an editor, television show host, reporter, and broadcast director. Students become

acquainted with the basics of electronic cutting, and the use of television studios, broadcast units and

mobile electronic devices. As professionals, they will be competent in performing news programs and

multi-site live broadcasts. Students participating in this program will become competent professionals in

all of the different components of television program making. During the program and with the help of

professionals, we seek out and develop those contents and formats which are best suited to the

individual skills of our students.

 Tourism and Catering

The program offers thorough grounding in all important subjects and topics in tourism and catering.

What makes the program really unique is the host of specializations available for students including

Health and Wellness Tourism Management, MICE Tourism Management and Destination Management

drawing heavily on the rich experience that the local tourism industry gained with Hungary having

a world renowned reputation due to its rich thermal healing water assets or its number one position in

the international dental tourism.Master (MA) programs

 Communication and Media Studies

The communication master course offers theoretical knowledge with a strong focus on practical,

professional skills and competences. In order to achieve that objective

 the educational program of the course is strongly media-oriented which is based on a thorough

grounding in social and behavioural sciences;

 complying with current social and labour market demands, the course integrates the fields of

communication theory, media studies, social sciences, political science, sociology, psychology

and cultural studies within the field of social sciences offering a knowledge of high standard,

which can be put to a profitable and practical use in various areas;

 the course is planned to include one optional modules: International Communication.

In accordance with the educational objectives of the program, the module places special emphasis on

developing the cross-cultural and intercultural competences of students who are also introduced to the

complex system of international organizations and the intricate processes that shape international

relations.

 Management and Leadership

Our institution has a strong relationship with a broad scale of these companies and professional

organizations, thus the Management and leadership MA program in BKF is one of the most potential

degree programs in Hungary as well as in Budapest.

The program is designed for individuals who are: open minded, who have good problem-solving and

organizational skill, interested in business, personal and organizational communication.

 Tourism Management

Our Master of Tourism Management program provides outstanding benefits within the framework of the

Health and Wellness Tourism Management specialization at a Master level. In addition, as a member of

the UNESCO UNITWIN program BKF is the onlyinstitution in Central and Eastern Europe offering a

World Heritage Management specialization. World Heritage Tourism is one of the most important branch

of the industry, therefore, we are proud to be a member of the network that is specialized in the

assessment and advancement of tourism with the aim of contributing to the protection and utilization of

World Heritage Sites.

VISA ASSISTANCE AND ACCOMODATION

BKF is committed to advance applicants’ VISA interview and guide them through a successful VISA

process. Consequently, we introduced a VISA assistance package which includes the following

services:

 Legal assistance

In addition to the application documents, we ask our applicants to provide us with the scanned

version of the following visa supporting documents for pre-checking:

- Application form filled out and signed by the applicant (residence permit for study

purposes)

- The applicant’s or his/her sponsor’s 3-6 months bank statement (must be notarised)

- Letter from the employer

- Commitment (sponsorship) letter from the parent or guardian that he or she will support

the student during his / her education in Hungary (must be notarised)

- Proof of sufficient funds of the guarantor (sponsor) - The guarantor must have adequate

means of subsistence and stand surety for any costs incurred by the student in terms

of health treatment, residence in Hungary and repatriation, for at least one academic

year. The guarantor must have a regular income

- Evidence of relationship with sponsor (birth certificates)

- 1-page CV (curriculum vitae).

Some embassies may require the submission further documents which should also be sent to BKF

prior to the VISA interview. By pre-checking all the VISA supporting documents, the aim of BKF is

to minimize the chance of a refused VISA application.

BKF offers a 10% "Early bird" discount for students who send all the necessary application

documents and transfer the tuition fee by the following deadlines:

Free tuition for studying hard? 

It is possible with the BKF Academic Scholarship.

International students enrolled in our business and communication programs may be refunded the full

amount of the tuition fee of the current semester provided they are amongst the top achivers in their

field. A number of students are awarded this scholarship each and every semester.

BKF Communication Foundation Scholarship – 1000 EUR/semester

Our international students may apply for the scholarship of 1000 EUR in each semester during the

length of their program in case their corrected credit index is 3.0 or higher.

2011 
BKF is 10 years old!
Two undergraduate programmes (Commerce and Marketing, Tourism and Catering) are launched at the brand new BKF Regional Knowledge Centre in Hódmezővásárhely, in the south of Hungary.
The number of students studying at BKF increases above 7,000.

2010
The reconstructed Rózsa Street campus opens its gates for art, tourism and catering students. 
Two new graduate programmes are launched: those interested may apply for the Communication and Media Studies and the Management and Leadership master programmes.
The Creative Talent of the Year, a prize founded by BKF is awarded the first time. BKF launches its Creative and Business Thinking competition for secondary schools students.

2009
Heller Farkas College of Economics and Tourism merges into Budapest College of Communication, Business and Arts. With this merger BKF becomes the largest private college in Hungary. Now Students can attend programmes in the field of Business, Communication, Tourism and Arts in two faculties.
