About University of Queensland

For more than a century, UQ has made significant contributions to Queensland, Australia and the world. Today, UQ is ranked in the top 100 universities globally, according to the four leading independent university tables – QS World University Rankings, Times Higher Education World University Rankings, the Academic Ranking of World Universities and the Performance Ranking of Scientific Papers of World Universities.

UQ’s innovators have made genuinely life-changing advances. For instance, tens of millions of women and girls have been protected by the cervical cancer vaccine, invented at UQ; most of the world’s MRI machines use UQ technology; and six million children have benefited from the University’s Triple P Positive Parenting Program.

.

Over 200,000 graduates – including more than 10,000 PhDs – have applied their UQ advantage to enhance society, the environment and economies. UQ alumni make up a community that includes Nobel Laureate Peter Doherty; Reserve Bank of Australia Board Members Catherine Tanna and Kathryn Fagg; High Court of Australia judge The Honourable Justice Patrick Keane; Geoffrey Rush, a recipient of the ‘triple crown of acting’; Australia’s first female Governor-General Quentin Bryce; and Andrew Liveris, President, Chairman and CEO of The Dow Chemical Company and the first Australian to chair the United States Business Council.

To the great advantage of current students, UQ has received over 90 Australian awards for teaching, more than any other university, and we have almost 100 members of Australia’s four learned academies. The combined strengths of teaching and research create a distinctive learning environment for students from over 130 nations and a diversity of backgrounds.

Our 45,000-plus students are engaged in more than 400 degree programs which foster curiosity, critical thinking, innovation and professional skills. When they graduate, UQ students are highly sought after. Graduate Careers Australia’s 2012 Graduate Survey found 78.3 per cent of UQ graduates under the age of 25 and available for full-time work had secured full-time employment, compared to the national average of 74.1 per cent. The survey also found UQ graduates likely to earn starting salaries well above the Australian average.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for entry to an undergraduate program at UQ as an international student, you must have:

Completed recognised upper secondary or equivalent Year 12 studies to the required standard

Satisfied English language requirements

Satisfied individual program requirements

Find out specific program requirements on the relevant program page on the Courses and Programs website or download a copy of the 2016 [PDF] Minimum Entry Requirements for International Undergraduate Programs table. Please also check the Australian Year 12 Subject Equivalents table.

If you are an international student currently studying year 12 in Australia, you must achieve the entry overall position (OP) or tertiary entrance rank (TER) equivalents determined for each program.

A small number of programs have limited (quota) places available. In these instances you might night need to meet a higher standard than the minimum required to gain entry.

A small number of programs require higher levels of English language proficiency.

UQ assesses applications on a case-by-case basis. Meeting the minimum entry requirements does not guarantee entry to the University's undergraduate programs.

What if I do not meet the academic requirements?

If you do not meet academic entry requirements, you may consider taking the Certificate IV in University Preparation (UQ Foundation Year) offered by International Education Services (IES).

View the pathways for the UQ Foundation Year [PDF] into UQ's undergraduate degrees.

If you wish to study the Bachelor of Business Management at UQ, but do not meet the entry requirements, you may enroll in the UQ accredited Associate Degree in Business program. Delivered by UQ College at the UQ St Lucia campus, this program can be a standalone qualification, or pathway into the fourth semester of UQ’s Bachelor of Business Management.

If you are an international year 12 student, please visit the Alternative pathways to entry page for other possibilities for gaining entry to a UQ program.

What if I do not meet the English language requirements?

If you do not meet the minimum English language requirements for your UQ degree, you may be issued with a Package Offer consisting of a period of English language study at ICTE-UQ and your principal UQ program.

Please note that package offers will only be issued where the only outstanding requirement for UQ admission is English.
