옥스퍼드 대학교는 영국 잉글랜드 옥스퍼드셔 주 옥스퍼드에 자리한 공립 연구중심 대학교이다. 1096년부터 교육을 시작했으며 영어권에서 가장 오래된 대학교이기도 하다. 세계 최고의 명문대학 중 하나로 손꼽히고 있다. 수많은 세계적인 인재들을 배출하였으며, 수백 년 동안 이어 온 깊은 역사와 전통을 자랑한다. 세계에서 가장 영예로운 장학금으로 인정받는 로즈 장학금을 수여하는 유일한 대학이기도 하다.

역사
옥스퍼드 대학교의 성립은 파리 대학의 유학생들이 귀국하여 런던 근처의 상공 도시 옥스퍼드에 정착하면서 대학 도시가 형성되게 되었다. 결국 파리 대학이 옥스퍼드 대학을 출범시킨 원형이었고 케임브리지 대학은 옥스퍼드 대학으로부터 갈라져 나온 데서부터 그 기원을 찾을 수 있다. 옥스퍼드는 런던 북서쪽 템스 강 상류에 있는 옥스퍼드 시에 산재해 있던 학교들을 통합하여 대학을 만들었다. 파리 대학을 모델로 하여 만들었는데 처음에 신학부, 법학부, 의학부, 인문학부가 개설되었다. 그 후 파리에서 가장 많은 학생들이 옮겨와서 급속도로 발전하게 되었다.
구성
영국에서 가장 많은 역대 수상들을 배출해온 영국 지성의 뿌리인 옥스퍼드 대학교는 독립적으로 운영되고 있는 38개의 단과대학과 6개의 permanent private hall로 구성되어있는데 각 단과대학과 대학본부 사이의 관계는 마치 미국의 연방제도와 매우 흡사한 운영체제를 띠고 있다. 대학 전체를 나타내는 university는 이들 college나 hall의 연합체이며 실험실, 도서관, 강당 등의 공동시설을 갖춤과 동시에 교육과정의 여러 요건을 정하는 정도이다. 최초의 칼리지인 유니버시티 칼리지는 1249년에 세워졌으며, 1263년경 베일리얼 칼리지가, 1264년에 머튼 칼리지가 세워졌다.

The University Accommodation Office provides a register containing houses, flats and rooms to rent in the private sector.
As an undergraduate, you can choose to move out of college and live with friends in student accommodation for some of your time studying at Oxford. For graduates, the University’s Accommodation Office can help if college accommodation is unavailable or not of the type needed.

Oxford offers a wide range of fully-funded scholarships which give the brightest candidates from around the world the opportunity to pursue graduate study. Scholarships cover the full academic range of Oxford’s graduate courses and are open to students of all nationalities. You will be automatically considered for over 75% of Oxford's scholarship schemes if you apply by the 9 or 23 January 2015 deadline (depending on the course you choose).
University-wide scholarships
Oxford is proud to be the home of a number of prestigious scholarship schemes, some of the largest of which are described below:
- The Clarendon Fund is one of the largest university graduate scholarship schemes in the UK, offering over 130 full scholarships every year to new graduate students.
- The Rhodes Scholarship, which is the oldest and most prestigious international graduate scholarship in the world, is available exclusively at Oxford with 83 full scholarships being awarded each year.
- The Oxford Graduate Scholarships are part of a ground-breaking fundraising initiative launched in 2012, with 60 scholarships being offered in 2015-16 across a range of subject areas.
University-wide bursaries
The University is offering 150 new Oxford Graduate Bursaries of £10,000 for new master’s students from the UK and the rest of the EU. These are supported jointly by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) and the university.

Research Council awards
Oxford receives some of the highest levels of Research Council funding of any institution in the UK, which is a reflection of the high quality of research being undertaken across the University.
Country-specific scholarships
Many graduate students at Oxford receive funding from schemes that are designed for students from a particular country, such as the Marshall Scholarships (USA),China Scholarship Council (China), Trudeau Foundation (Canada), and Science without Borders (Brazil).
Project-specific scholarships
Some of our graduate students benefit from scholarships for specific research projects. Sometimes these are supported by charities; for example, the Wellcome Trust supports a number of research students via the Doctoral Training Centres in the medical sciences.
